Themistocles Kakouris… you can call him Tim or TK for short. Tim has been in the bicycle business since what seems like 1896 but in reality is 1986. He started in the basement, made it to stock boy and eventually the boss let him get his coffee. Over the years things have certainly changed because these days Tim works as the general manager of Ghisallo Sports.
Nearly a decade before Tim starting working in shops he was already racing bikes. He started with bmx bikes and graduated to big boy bikes about 9 years later. Although it’s normally kept secret Tim admits to even doing some multisport races in the early 90’s “It was vogue, and my rickety knees still worked.” These days Tim is most comfortable pedaling expensive bikes in circles in front of his family and friends or in the dirt on his mtb du jour. “So many bikes, so little time or talent.” When asked about his strengths on the bike “I climb faster than most fat guys and sprint better than most middle school girls.”
Bike racing is important but for Tim his first love is his family. He has two boys and a girl, and an amazing wife who puts up with his expensive tastes and fickle decision making. Fortunately for Tim his wife Deanna is also a bike rider/Ghisallo employee and understands better than most when he says “I have to have those white SRAM hood covers or I’ll just die.” An even better testament to her good nature is how she puts up with his car hobby, too. Even though Tim can be found cruising in his Ford Freestyle his preference is for loud, cramped, old mustangs. Over the years he has owned a 65, 66, 95, 96, 98, two 99’s, and a ‘01 and all of them ran. “No, none of them ended up on blocks in my front yard, well one did for a week, but that doesn’t really count.”
Tim and Deanna also share their house with 2 dogs, a Dalmatian and a Yorkie…”the Yorkie runs the place along with our 20 month old boy Eli.” His older boy Tyson wants to be a rock star, and his 8 year old girl Hanna is already one! “If you see me at the races and I look like death warmed over, it means that the kids and probably the dogs have been having the time of their lives.”
